For Immediate Release:                                                                                  Media Contact: Amber O’Connor May 2, 2008                                                                                                                                       (720) 219-2023                                                                                                                                                 Jeff Crank Stands Alone with McCain on Earmarks Crank the candidate in race to support McCain’s stop to earmarks COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – While John McCain visited Denver today and denounced “pork-barrel, earmark spending,” Jeff Crank, Republican candidate for Congress in Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, challenged Doug Lamborn to release records of his earmark requests for the public to review.  The deadline for filing earmark requests was April 25.    Crank is the only candidate in Colorado’s 5th district to join John McCain in opposing earmarks.   “We deserve Members of Congress committed to fiscal responsibility and transparency,” said Crank. “Americans send billions of dollars to Congress every year and trust them to spend it wisely. They deserve to know where every penny of that money is being spent.”   Crank vowed to fight the scourge of earmarks last month when he signing the FreedomWorks pledge to oppose earmarks and return fiscal common sense to Congress.  Crank said that said he looks forward to working with President John McCain on this issue next year. “We are getting a committed fiscal conservative in John McCain,” said Crank. “He has been steadfast and unshaken when standing up for bringing more accountability to government and cutting reckless spending.”   “Republicans must follow John McCain’s lead and start acting like Republicans when it comes to spending.  We must cut the size and scope of the federal government,” said Crank.    This week The Hill reported Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) is in line to break records for her earmark requests, most of which would be sent back to her home state of New York.   Alan Philp, Crank’s campaign manager, observed that on the issue of earmarks, you either stand with John McCain or with Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.  “Jeff Crank is the only candidate for Congress in this district who sides with John McCain against the wasteful and too-often corrupt spending practice known as earmarking,” he said.  “We need a congressman who will lead John McCain’s efforts on the House floor, not one who will follow the tired, wasteful, too-often corrupt earmarking ways of the past.”   “The last thing America needs are more politicians like Hillary and Barack wasting our hard-earned tax dollars. I am confident that President McCain will continue to fight what he has called ‘wasteful Washington spending.’ He will need Republican allies at his side.
