Send Brandon Shaffer Home
If I were to pick one politician that I would most like to see out of the legislature, it would be Colorado State Senator Brandon Shaffer. He is a lawyer who doesn't believe that the public should be protected from bad judges. He wrote a deceptive law that did the opposite of what it appeared to do.
This may be a bit late to impact his election, but it sends a message that I want sent.
This is a five minute video with a lot of information packed in it. The slides intentionally do not follow the audio so as to pack even more information in it. When a slide says that "I wanted...," it means that I gave Brandon Shaffer written input in the format he required on that subject which he either ignored or inserted opposite language.
When I testified before the Senate Judiciary committee, I did so without having seen a copy of the amendment I speak about. Every lawyer in the room had a copy. That amendment was offered after I spoke, so I had no opportunity to object to it.
When I testified before the House Judiciary committee, the house sponsor arranged my testimony to occur while many of the legislators were taking a bathroom break after long testimony on another bill.
Of course, every lawyer who followed up my testimony loved the law. It wasn't written to protect the public. It was written to protect lawyers and judges.
