Victory for American Energy Independence
U.S. House of Representatives Lifts Ban on Offshore and Oil Shale Drilling
Washington, D.C.—
This week marks a historic victory for Americans seeking energy independence. For the first time in more than twenty years, Congress has allowed the  ban on offshore and oil shale exploration to expire. Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) released the following statement in regards to this energy victory:
“House Republicans scored a major victory on behalf of the American people, forcing an end to bans on offshore and oil shale American energy exploration. This did not happen by accident. House Republicans have stood up and fought for the millions of Americans suffering under the crushing burden of skyrocketing gas prices while the do-nothing Democrats who control both houses of Congress took a walk. Though we never received  an up or down vote on an all-of-the above energy plan, this is a step in the right direction.”--Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
This fight is not over. Amid this market turmoil, spiking gas prices and the coming winter heating bills, House Republicans are renewing their commitment to an all-of-the-above energy strategy – more conservation, more renewables and alternatives, and more production of American-made energy – encompassed in the H.R. 6566, the American Energy Act.

Camp Hale Potential National Historic Site Under Lamborn Bill
H.R. 3336 passes House by voice vote

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) today passed a bill through the U.S. House of Representatives that requires the National Park Service to conduct a feasibility study for inclusion of Camp Hale into the National Park System.

“Our nation is still inspired by the 10th Mountain Division’s bravery and defense of freedom in World War II. I hope this study bill focusing on Tennessee Pass and Camp Hale will allow the entire country and world to learn about and experience this piece of American history. This area is also a site of incredible beauty and outdoor opportunity.” – Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

H.R. 3336, the Camp Hale Study Act, calls for a comprehensive review of the feasibility and suitability of adding the historic World War II Army training site as a unit of the National Park System.

The U.S. Army established Camp Hale near the Tennessee Pass in Lake County to serve as a training site for the 10th Mountain Division, a specialized skiing unit whose heroism during World War II still inspires our nation.  Later the site was used for covert training operations furthering the cause of freedom during the Cold War.  In 1965 the Army dismantled Camp Hale and the government deeded the land to the Forest Service in 1966.

The House Committee on Natural Resources approved an amendment to this bill to protect water rights and private property rights.

Camp Hale is named for the late brigadier general Irving Hale, a veteran of the Spanish American War. According to Denver’s Metropolitan State College, Camp Hale was originally designed for 20,353 military personnel and 11,288 animals. At its height, it housed about 16,000 soldiers and 3,900 animals.

Congressman Lamborn is one of only three freshmen members of Congress from the minority party to pass two substantive bills in the 110th Congress.

CONGRESSMAN DOUG LAMBORN ISSUES STATEMENT ON RECENT DEATH OF RAY POWERS

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Lamborn today released the following statement upon the death of Ray Powers, patriarch of the El Paso County Republican Party, on Friday, September 19, 2008:

“Former Colorado State Senate President Ray Powers was a staunch advocate of many Republican values, including self-reliance, frugality and accountability. He believed that government should stick to the essentials and only do those things that people could not do as well themselves. He always told it like it was. Jeanie and I have many wonderful memories of working with him over the years. Colorado is a better place for his having served. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Dorothy, and their children and grandchildren.”- Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
